Washington County Recent Arrests
Washington County posts no live jail roster online. Same-day booking lists and a county mugshot feed are absent too. That gap makes the order of your calls matter more than any single web result. For present custody, call the Washington County Jail at 319-653-5902. Need a booking record, arrest report, or photo? The Sheriff's Records Division handles those at 319-653-2107. The county's VINE link adds its own custody-status and alert route. Iowa Courts Online becomes useful once a case reaches the docket. Each office covers one slice. Match the office to the question.
| Window or channel | Coverage | Photo and timing | More detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Same day | No official public view located | No county photo or schedule published | Arrested Today |
| Multi-day | Historical releases and periodic news logs | Story photos and timing vary | Arrest Reports |
| VINE | Custody status and alerts | Not a promised mugshot source | VINE Arrest Check |
| Private recent page | Dynamic, unofficial recent view | Photos may appear; freshness is not guaranteed | Verify officially |
When Do Arrests Appear Online?
No Washington County agency publishes a set lag between an arrest and its posting online. The county runs no public roster. A missing name online proves nothing. A person may be processing, released, or held elsewhere. Work the phones: jail, VINE, then a narrow chapter 22 records request. No cutoff time, holiday schedule, or photo rule appears. The Arrested Today page covers this short window without inventing an official feed. The jail answers custody questions, and Records holds the intake document.
The official jail page displays the facility's own information. Prefer it over any private booking list.

The county's jail page shows facility information only. It is not a roster, which is the central limit of Washington County's online arrest system.
Washington County Jail Roster
The roster finding is an absence. Guessing is not the answer. No search form appears on the jail page, the Records page, or the county quick-links page. Nothing there queries current custody. Name fields, booking-photo display, and refresh cadence are not published. VINE tracks custody status, but it is no sheriff roster and promises no booking photo.
| Roster question | Verified Washington County answer |
|---|---|
| Official URL | None located as of September 8, 2026 |
| Search fields | No public county interface located |
| County photos | No online display located |
| Refresh and persistence | Not published |
| Current custody | Jail, 319-653-5902; VINE for alerts |
| Record or photo | Records Division, 319-653-2107 |
| Later case | Iowa Courts Online or Clerk, 319-653-7741 |
Start with the full name and likely booking date. Call the jail for current custody, then use the county quick links page for VINE or ask Records for the named record. The court docket shows filed charges last.
Sheriff App Is Not Arrests
The official Washington CSO app is a sheriff outreach tool. It handles crime reporting, tips, and safety news. No booking roster, booking IDs, arrest search, or photo feature appears in it. App notices are public-safety updates.
Custody alerts live in a different system. The county links to Iowa VINE for status searches and notifications. For the county-specific route, use the VINE Arrest Check page. The app itself points users to 911 for emergencies.
Where County Arrests Get Published
Official sources come first. The jail answers custody, Records holds the files, VINE tracks status, and the courts show outcomes. News and private sites offer clues.
| Channel | Official? | Photos? | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jail and Records | Yes | Request if maintained and disclosable | Custody and source records |
| VINE | Government-linked | Not promised | Status and alerts |
| Iowa Courts Online | Yes | No gallery | Case and disposition |
| Southeast Iowa Union / The News | No, journalism | Sometimes story-specific | Periodic context |
| RecentlyBooked | No | Yes on samples | Unofficial lead |
| Other aggregators | No | Local coverage unverified | Cautious coverage check |
The Southeast Iowa Union Washington News section illustrates reporting rather than a custody database.

County arrest records still come from officials, not headlines.
County Arrest Statistics Need Filters
The Iowa Department of Public Safety runs an official Arrest Distribution interface with filters for date, agency, municipality, and offense. It answers trend questions. Run a Washington County query and save the result. The tool cannot show who is in jail right now. No totals appear here, since a filtered count exists only after you run one.
Statistics and booking records serve different needs. A count sums reported events under your filters. A booking record covers one arrest, so the jail and VINE handle current status, and query dates and agency filters should stay attached to any figure you cite.
Recent Arrests by City
Washington County splits its police coverage. Washington runs its own department, though anyone held in county custody still goes through the jail and sheriff records path. Kalona and Wellman rely on sheriff contract coverage. Neither town posts a city booking feed.
- Washington Recent Arrests: city police records plus county jail custody.
- Kalona Recent Arrests: sheriff contract service and county records.
- Wellman Recent Arrests: county sheriff service with local news context.
A city name in a dispatch does not prove a booking location. Confirm the arresting agency and facility.
Washington County Arrest Record Fields
A booking record gets created at jail intake. It is not an arrest report, investigative file, statewide history, complaint, or judgment. Washington County publishes no field-by-field schema. These are fields a record may show, not a promise of release.
| Field | What it may show |
|---|---|
| Name and local ID | Identity entered at intake and a booking number |
| Arrest and booking times | Separate event and intake times |
| Agency and facility | Who delivered the person and where custody was recorded |
| Charges as booked | Charges at intake, subject to change |
| Bond and court date | Release terms or a scheduled appearance |
| Photo and descriptors | Intake image and details, if released |
| Release or transfer | Status that may need direct confirmation |
| Disposition | Not a booking field; check court |
- Booking
- The jail intake process and record.
- Bond
- A court-set release condition or amount.
- Disposition
- The recorded outcome of a court case.
- Expungement
- A legal process making an eligible record confidential.
Request Washington County Arrest Records
Want a Washington County arrest record? Start with the Sheriff's Records Division. This office handles arrests, incident files, citations, crash reports, criminal records, and department statistics. You can visit at 2181 Lexington Boulevard, P.O. Box 6, Washington, IA 52353. Phone lines open at 319-653-2107, staffed weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office publishes no set booking-photo fee or turnaround promise, so ask about current costs and when a response should arrive.
- Give the full name, narrow date range, agency, and known case or booking number.
- Ask under Iowa Code chapter 22 for the existing booking record and photo, if maintained and disclosable.
- State whether inspection or a copy is preferred. Ask about cost first.
- If part is withheld, request the legal basis and any releasable portion.
- Use the court docket separately for final disposition.
The county department directory confirms the contact route.

The directory separates Records from the jail custody line and Civil warrant-service line.
Why Arrest Details May Be Withheld
Some Washington County arrest details stay closed. The county's official sheriff FAQ confirms that juvenile information never gets released. Iowa Code section 22.7 also shields investigative reports, though basic call-for-service facts remain open. Medical details can be withheld too. So can protected victims, safety concerns, and court orders. Sealed or expunged records fall in that group as well.
Keep your request narrow. Chapter 22 opens existing public records. It does not force an office to build a new list or dig for answers to broad questions. It also cannot demand explanations written in place of actual records.
Washington County Mugshots by Source
Washington County hosts no public photo roster. Ask Records directly for a specific booking photo. A Southeast Iowa Union arrest story ran an image credited to the Washington County Jail, and RecentlyBooked showed photos on sampled private arrest records. Neither source proves every arrest produces a public image. The Iowa Department of Corrections search covers people in state corrections or under supervision, not every county arrestee. Its description promises no photo either. Request IDOC images or documents through the DOC records channel.
Booking photos for Washington County arrests come straight from official jail sources. See the sections on this page for where each roster of recent arrests originates.
Iowa Arrest Law and Removal
Iowa Code chapter 22 sets the rules for public-record access. Section 22.7(9) currently addresses certain arrest information. No enacted Iowa law bans county mugshots or sets up a paid-removal system. House File 2309 was only a proposal. Juvenile limits, investigative exemptions, redaction, court orders, sealing, and expungement all matter. Each can shape what a record looks like.
Fix errors at the source first. Contact the agency custodian if a record is wrong. When a court seals or expunges a case, get the order. Send it to every publisher still listing the item. Iowa Code chapter 901C and the Iowa court expungement forms explain who qualifies. Expungement makes an eligible record confidential, but archives and search caches may lag behind. RecentlyBooked offers a free correction and removal policy. It covers dismissal, expungement, sealing, wrong identity, and stale or duplicate listings. Busted Newspaper's local route could not be verified. Mugshots.com, Arrests.org, and Mugshots.zone showed no active Washington County section. Never pay a vendor posing as a court, sheriff, DOC, or VINE process. Use the official expungement route before any private-site request.

The capture concerns court relief, not a promise that every copied image will vanish.
Arrest Search Fees Can Change
Fees shift, so check current numbers. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation page now lists $15 per last name for a history check. An older county FAQ said $13. That gap is why fee claims need dates. Remember, a DCI history check is not a live Washington County booking or custody check.
The sheriff publishes no booking-photo or copy charges. Ask Records first. Iowa DOC works differently: the first 30 minutes are free, staff time after that may be billed, copies run $0.15 per page, and prepayment can apply above a $25 estimate. Those rates belong to DOC, not the sheriff.
Washington County Arrest Warrants
Washington County has no public warrant portal. No current most-wanted page exists either. The state IOWA System stays restricted to participating justice agencies. The county Civil Office processes arrest warrants but posts no roster, so call the Sheriff at 319-653-2107 or Civil at 319-653-6651 to confirm a warrant. Court status is available from the Clerk at 224 W. Main Street, Washington, IA 52353, 319-653-7741. Anyone who suspects a warrant in their name should reach the clerk, sheriff, or an attorney and follow court instructions. Never confront or detain a person on rumor. Call 911 for danger; 800-847-7492 takes anonymous tips. The IOWA System explanation spells out why it is not a public lookup.

The restriction reinforces confirmation through the sheriff, clerk, or counsel.
Washington County Arrest Custody Changes
A county booking search only reaches so far. A sentence changes that. Once someone enters state prison or Iowa corrections supervision, the county jail search stops applying. The Iowa Department of Corrections runs an official search that takes a first, middle, and last name, plus offender number, sex, location, offense, and county of commitment. One caution matters here. The county of commitment is not always the arrest location. Results refresh weekly. They can shift, so write down your search date and confirm more than a name.
The DOC description covers status, location within limits, offense, supervision, physical details, and related record types. No photo is promised. A records request works best when it names the person, lists the offender number if known, and states the record type and date range. The department aims to answer within ten business days. Confidentiality questions can stretch that to twenty calendar days. Those state timelines say nothing about the Washington County Sheriff's response speed.
VINE can send alerts as custody moves between county and state. The DOC search helps after transfer or sentencing. Neither one settles the criminal case. Match the person, then go back to Iowa Courts Online for the disposition.
After a Washington County Arrest
Iowa Courts Online picks up the trail after booking. Search by name. Then confirm Washington County, the case number, filing date, charge, hearing entries, and disposition. The Clerk helps when a document is not online. Posting takes time, though. Judicial Branch guidance allows ten to fourteen days for citations, longer over weekends and holidays. A quiet court file does not rule out a recent arrest. Arraignment is the first appearance, and outcomes later can include dismissal, acquittal, plea, conviction, or deferred judgment.
Older Arrest Sources Name Another Jail
Old reports sometimes name a different jail. The earlier jail portion closed after a state inspection on July 1, 2000. A waiver and variance process began in 2005. Construction at 2185 Lexington Boulevard started in 2006. None of that tells you current capacity, staffing, or conditions. For custody today, call the current jail at 319-653-5902. Sheriff administration and Records sit at 2181 Lexington Boulevard and serve a different function, so keeping the two addresses apart stops an old arrest reference from reading as a current location.
Where Older Arrest Records Remain
The county posts no photo retention schedule. Iowa jail rules keep some record series at least two years, but that says nothing about photos. Ask Records which schedule governs the series. A record can vanish from the web and still exist in government files. The county Public Safety News archive preserves releases, not a live roster. News archives and court records can outlast any private recent window. For much older state custody, the State Historical Society Board of Control holds penitentiary indexes, registers, Bertillon cards, and historical mugshots. Those are not recent county bookings.
Federal custody sits apart. The BOP Inmate Locator reaches federal inmates from 1982 onward and has no photo gallery. ICE runs its own locator. Neither replaces the jail, VINE, courts, or Records.
